In information science and bibliometrics, a citation graph is a directed graph in which each vertex represents an academic publication such as a journal article and in which each edge represents a citation from one publication to another. The citation graph may be used in citation analysis as the basis for calculating other measures of scientific impact such as the h-index, and for studying the structure and development of different fields of academic inquiry.
